About Coach Kostecky

TJ Kostecky has been the head coach of the Long Island University Division 1 soccer team for the past 19 years. The LIU Blackbirds have experienced undeniable success during his tenure including multiple championships. Recently, he led LIU to a Northeastern Conference Championship with an unbelievable 7-0 record! Coach TJ strives for excellence in the classroom just as much as on the field. His teams are regularly recognized as having the highest GPAs in Division 1 soccer. Kostecky credits the success he has accumulated on the field to his philosophy on game preparation as well as the involvement of his coaching staff and players in the program. “My approach to coaching is based on the fact that soccer is different from other American sports. It is really a player-directed game,” he said. “Most coaching is done in preparation for the game as opposed to in-game coaching."
